According to AppHealthCare's latest COVID update, Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany all saw a decrease in new cases and positivity rate since the September 24 report.

Watauga is at 56% fully or partially vaccinated. As of Friday, there are 91 active cases. AppHealthCare is monitoring one active case in the Watauga Detention Center cluster, one each in the Cottages of Boone and the Standard, and 2 at the Hospitality House.

The total number of cases in Watauga since the pandemic began has been lowered by AppHealthCare after a reconciliation of its data and finding duplicates and cases that should be registered elsewhere.. Previously more than 6000 cases total was reported. As of Friday, that number has been reduced to 5807 total cases.

Ashe County has also seen a decrease in new cases and positity rate since last report. Ashe is 51% vaccinated and reports 43 active cases as of Friday. There are no active cases in the Margate Health and Rehab Center cluster.

Statewide, the rate of new cases per 100,000 has dropped 45%, the positivity rate is down 1.3%, and the rate of new deaths per 100,000 has also dropped by 47% over last week's report.

 

App State Chancellor Dr. Sheri Everts reported in her Friday update that over last week, 1925 students were tested for COVID and there was a 2.34% positivity rate. The vaccination rate of students continues to rise and has increased to 60%. The vaccination rate of employees remains steady at 94%. With more than 13,000 faculty, staff and students fully vaccinated, the university's overall vaccination rate is currently 64%.
