Watauga and Avery Counties currently boast some of the lowest unemployment rates in the state.

The Avery Journal reports both Avery's and Watauga's rate in May was 3.6%, and tied for the third lowest in the state.

Ashe County reported 3.7% for May.

According to the report, the unemployment rate increased in 77 North Carolina counties, declined in 8 counties and was unchanged in 15.

North Carolina's unemployment rate for the state is 4.8%.

Nationwide, the unemployment rate for May decreased by 0.3 percent to 5.8 percent.
