The Boone Police Department is investigating a shooting on King Street that took place Saturday, July 3, where one person was reported injured and another is in custody.

The Watauga Democrat reports Boone Police Chief Andy Le Beau said law enforcement was notified of shots fired on King Street around 10 a.m. and the suspect was identified only as a "relatively young male." The suspect was taken into custody near Boone Fire Station No. 1 after he surrendered peacefully.

According to the report, the suspect allegedly fired a gun at another vehicle near Mast General Store. A vehicle on the scene apparently had its window shot out.

The investigation continues and not information about the suspect or any charges has been released. One person reportedly was injuried taken to Watauga Medical Center. LeBeau said the victim was in the vehicle located at Mast Store, and has been released from the hospital.

Boone Police, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Watauga County Sheriff's Office, the ASUPD, the Boone Fire Department and Watauga Emergency Management all responded to the incident.

Boone Police report that as of 2 pm Saturday, King Street is now open again to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
