The Paul H. Broyhill Wellness Center will be removing the lap pool as part of a re-imagining of the facility on Boone Heights Drive.

The Watauga Democrat reports Rob Hudspeth, senior vice president for system advancement at Appalachian Regional Healthcare System, said the system has been in the process of revitalizing all of its facilities and services to prepare for growth in the coming decades, which included the Wellness Center.

According to the report, Hudspeth said since the county announced plans for the new Watauga Community Recreation Center, the system has been contemplating changes, especially since the two pools are just a block or so away.

Hudspeth said there has not yet been a determination made about the therapy pool and ARHS is still evaluating how and where to continue those services.

Hudspeth said with growth of AppOrtho, relocating to the Wellness Center made the most sense, where orthopedic providers and physical therapists can provide services under one roof.

New architectural designs, once they are complete, will be posted in the Wellness Center.
