Downtown Boone Development Association has been designated as an accredited Main Street program for meeting rigorous performance standards.

High Country Press reports that each year, Main Street America releases its list of accredited programs to recognize their exceptional commitment to preservation-based economic development and community revitalization.

Evaluation criteria include standards such as, fostering strong public-private partnerships, documenting programmatic progress, and actively preserving historic buildings.

According to the report, last year, Downtown Boone had more than $1,6 million in property acquisitions and sales, more than $2,1 million in private investment and $186,800 in public investment, while putting in 380 volunteer hours.
