Last Friday, all Ashe County Schools employees were given the opportunity to receive a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Ashe Post and Times reports AppHealthCare's Director of Communications & Compliance Melissa Bracey said 330 ACS staff members received their first dose at Friday's clinic at the Ashe Civic Center.

To give staff the opportunity, Ashe Schools held a remote learning day Friday.

According to the report, Superintendent Dr. Eisa Cox, who received her first dose at the event, said she was excited so many staff members wanted the vaccine because it shows a real commitment to returning to school. Second doses for staff members will be March 26, which will also be a teacher work day.

The Ashe Post and Times also reports the Ashe County Board of Education voted Monday, March 1 to allow K-5 students to return to school under Plan A starting Monday, March 8. According to the report, the board's vote was unanimous. All of the information presented during the meeting is available online at AsheSchools.org.
