Mitchell County Health Department Wednesday reported its seventh CoVID-19 associated death in the county.

The individual was in their 80’s. To protect the family’s privacy no further information about the patient will be released.

Toe River Health District released its weekly COVID-19 totals Wednesday. In Avery, there were 137 active cases, 563 total, and 6 deaths. Mitchell County with 80 active cases, a total of 442, with 7 deaths. Yancey with 69 active cases, 500 total, and 3 deaths.

The Avery County Health Department has announced a new no-cost COVID-19 virus testing site has launched in Avery. Individuals with or without insurance or other credentials can be tested. Testing will be available at the Dive-In Pool at 220 Shady Street in Newland Wednesday November 25, 27, and 30, from 9 am to 1 pm each day. AppHealthCare reported Wednesday there were 147 active cases, a total of 2092, with 236 being actively monitored, and 16 deaths.

Ashe County reported 74 active cases, a total of 757, 181 being monitored, and 15 deaths.

Alleghany County Wednesday had 20 active cases, a total of 403, 50 individuals being monitored, and 2 deaths.

Appalachian State reported Wednesday there were 39 active cases among students, 1 employee actively positive. There has been a total of 1097 students and 54 employees with the virus since March.
