The Watauga County Board of Elections will hold a meeting Friday at 10 AM.

The meeting is being held in the commissioner's board room at the Watauga Administration Building, 814 West King Street, and electronically.

This meeting is being called for a state-wide recount for the North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice contest.

Democrat Cheri Beasley officially requested the recount in a letter to the State Board of Elections on Tuesday.

Beasley trails Republican Paul Newby by fewer than 400 votes out of nearly 5.4 million cast.

According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections, the recount will take several days. County boards of elections must complete their recounts by Wednesday, November 25.

There will be a limited number of the public allowed in the room for the meeting. Please RSVP if you would like to attend. Preference will be given to candidates or their designees.

The public may access this meeting by phone or by Zoom. Instructions to access the meeting can be found online at WataugaCounty.org.
