Here are COVID-19 case numbers from Thursday October 15.

AppHealthCare reported Thursday there were 207 active COVID-19 cases in Watauga, a total of 1622, with 293 being monitored. Ashe with 55 active cases, a total of 403, with 96 being monitored. Alleghany had 10 active cases, a total of 257 and 36 being monitored. AppHealthCare reports there have 15 deaths in Watauga, 6 in Ashe and 1 in Alleghany.

Appalachian State reported Thursday 127 active cases among students and 2 among employees. Since March there has been 941 cases among students, 40 among employees, and 41 among subcontractors.

There will be pop-up testing available for students and faculty in the Rivers Street parking deck each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, through at least October 31, from noon till 5pm each day.


Toe River Health District reported Thursday that the Yancey County Health Department had 14 new positive COVID-19 cases, that includes a congregate living facility and several individuals. All positive cases are being quarantined. The staff is reaching out ot close contacts to contain the spread.
