On the heels of reopening for the first time in ten years, the Bluffs Restaurant on the Blue Ridge Parkway has once again closed.

The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation has announced that the restaurant's operators have decided to suspend food service for the rest of the year.

The decision was made in the interest of the safety of patrons and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of now the Bluffs is planning to reopen in spring of 2021.

Carolyn Ward, CEO of the Parkway Foundation, said that while this is not the reopening the Foundation had envisioned, it is the best decision in the current circumstances.

Ward said they hope to host a grand reopening under more favorable conditions, and in the meantime is exploring opportunities for scheduled interpretive programs at Doughton Park that highlight the history of the restaurant and the surrounding recreation area.
