A young child has died after getting his head stuck in a vehicle window.

The Watauga Democrat reports the Watauga Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call August 23 from the Dollar General Store in Vilas.

According to the report, the call indicated the 8-year old child's head had become stuck as the car window was rolled up and they could not get him out.

Shortly after, the child was freed from the car but was unresponsive.

Bystanders attempted CPR. First responders arrived on scene and the child was taken to Watauga Medical Center.

Attempts to resuscitate the child were unsuccessful.

Initial investigations indicate the power window had a faulty switch and the door latch was in disrepair.

The investigation continues, no charges have yet been filed.
