The final copy of the Elk Knob Park Master Plan has been released by the NC Division of Parks and Recreation, and public comments on the plan are being accepted through July 10.

High Country Press reports the new plan preserves 94 percent of the current park land with just six percent used for park amenities.

It also includes approximately 11 miles of trails that will be included in the Northern Peaks State Trail and a total of 33 additional miles of trails overall.

Plus camping locations and a visitor’s center are included.
