A second Wilkes County resident has died from COVID-19.

The Wilkes Journal Patriot reports Health Department Director Rachel Willard said the individual was in their late 80s, and died from complications associated with the virus Wednesday at a hospital in Winston Salem.

As of earlier Wednesday, Wilkes County had 447 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 269 recoveries and nine currently hospitalized.

Wednesday afternoon, AppHealthCare reported 12 positive COVID-19 cases in both Alleghany and Watauga Counties, and 28 in Ashe County.

There are 4 individuals being monitored by AppHealthCare in Alleghany, 21 in Ashe, 14 in Watauga and 5 residing in other counties.
