Newland Police have charged a local man with cashing stolen checks.

The Avery Journal reports Charles Bradley Shook, age 38, of Newland was charged February 27 for allegedly cashing eight separate stolen checks that totaled $2,700 at the Ingles supermarket in Newland.

According to the report, police were notified January 29 that a Bank of Tennessee customer reported several checks had been stolen and the bank said the returned checks show they were cashed at Ingles.

Newland Police received video footage of the checks being cashed at Ingles.

Shook is facing charges on eight counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.
