Blowing Rock will begin the Bass Lake sidewalk project next month.

The Watauga Democrat reports the contract for the sidewalk project along U.S. 221 from downtown Blowing Rock to Bass Lake was awarded February 11 at the Blowing Rock Town Council meeting.

According to the report, the project will start at the intersection of Highway 221 and Main Street downtown, and work in this area should be completed by the end of May. The work will include a crosswalk across 221 from The Speckled Trout to Mellow Mushroom.

The plans call for a retaining wall, drainage, curb and gutter work along Highway 221. The project should be fully completed by October.

Country Boy Landscaping out of Harmony NC was the low bidder at $976,959. The contract was unanimously approved by the council.
