Mount Jefferson hosts the 6th annual North Carolina Downhill Race in August, and this year's event will be an official World Cup event.

AsheCountyLine.com reports Park Superintendent Joe Shimel says Mount Jefferson has been designated as one of six venues world-wide to host a World Cup event. The other host sites are Goldendale Washington, Vulcan Romania, Kozakov Czech Republic, Cavite Philippines, and Bathurst Australia.

According to the report, the world championships for the Open Skateboard Class is determined by racer's best 5 finishes at designated World Cup sites.

With the designation of Mount Jefferson as a World Cup site, the top ranked downhill skateboarders in the world will come to Ashe County to compete August 15 and 16.
