A group of Watauga High School students participated in an organized Climate Strike by walking out of school last Friday, joining other students across the country.

The Sunrise Movement — a national group of young people asking peers to make climate change an urgent priority - organized the nationwide walkout - to rally for action to address climate change.

According to the report, participants met with a crowd of students outside of the high school, then traveled to Howard Street to meet with community members and ASU students involved with the Climate Action Collaborative, then marched to the downtown Boone Post Office, where Watauga student Galen Miller, co-founder of the Boone Sunrise Movement hub, Emma Strange from the Watauga County Democrats and newly elected Boone Town Council member Nancy LaPlaca spoke about climate change.
