New River Light and Power will be changing it's energy supplier in the future.
High Country Press reports NRLP currently buys power from Blue Ridge Energy - which buys from Duke Energy - but when the current contract expires, will contract with NTE Carolinas, a company that puts emphasis on natural gas-fired generators and solar power.
The new arrangement is expected to provide savings for customers, as well as give them options for renewable sources for that energy.
A number of other municipalities have already contracted with NTE and others are considering the switch.
New River is also in talks with NTE about building a solar farm in the High Country.
New River Light and Power’s new contract to buy wholesale energy from NTE Carolinas will begin in 2022.
