Two people were arrested after a motorcycle chase and crash on Monday, October 7th in Jefferson.

The Ashe Post and Times reports a NC State Highway Patrol  trooper saw a motorcyclist speeding without a registration plate, and Captain Josh Hodges of the West Jefferson PD attempted to pull the motorcyclist over.

The motorcyclist led law enforcement in a short chase, crashed the motorcycle, and then fled on foot.

Officers were unable to initially locate the suspect, identified as 28 year old Derek Wesley Scism of Blowing Rock. The officers involved obtained a search warrant on an Ashe Lake community apartment, where Scism was found and arrested.

Scism has been charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell, deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, driving while license revoked not impaired and exceeding posted speed, and two felony probation violations in Watauga County.

Scism is held on a $90,000 secured bond in the Ashe County Detention Center.

45 year old Marsha Woods Parks of West Jefferson was also arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive. Parks is being held in the Ashe County Detention Center on a $1,500 secured bond.
