Mountain Electric Cooperative has scheduled an Emergency Power Outage for much of Avery County, this Friday morning from 12AM-5AM.

According to a Facebook post from Mountain Electric Cooperative, this outage will allow them to make emergency repairs to equipment at the MEC/TVA Cranberry Substation.

The outage will affect 14,500 customers in Avery County, including: Newland, Cranberry, Minneapolis, Banner Elk, Sugar Mountain, Grandfather, Montezuma, Linville, Pineola, Crossnore, Jonas Ridge, Old Beech Mountain, Heaton, Matney, Blevins Creek, and Linville Falls.

The outage will not affect Beech Mountain and Elk Park.
