A Newland man was charged with manufacturing marijuana, after 54 marijuana plants were located growing in the Hickory Nut Gap area.

The Avery Journal reports the Avery County Sheriff's Office worked with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to use an aircraft to locate the marijuana on Thursday, September 12th.

64 year old Wade King of Newland was charged with manufacturing marijuana after the plants were found.

Another Newland man was charged with methamphetamine trafficking, after being found with 405 grams of meth in his car.

The Avery Journal reports 46 year old Jonathan Paul Church was leaving a Stacy Hill Road address in Nebo on September 7th, which McDowell County Sheriff's Office deputies were investigating for possible drug activity.
