A wastewater spill at the Beaver Creek Pump Station this past Monday in West Jefferson led to the spilling of an estimated 8,000 gallons of untreated wastewater.

Ashe Post and Times reports around 6500 gallons were spilled into Beaver Creek in the New River Basin.

The spill was caused by a hole in a six-inch piece of iron pipe in the main line.

The pipe was repaired on Monday, according to Town Manager Brantley Price, and the Division of Water Quality has been made aware of the spill.
