The state of North Carolina has purchased additional land to be part of the Elk Knob State Park.

According to the Watauga Democrat, the 69 acre purchase is on the western side of The Peak, near Daltons Creek Road, located off Peak Road in Ashe County.

The land is adjacent to already established park land near The Peak.

It will be added to more than 1000 acres of park land on and surrounding The Peak which currently has no public access.

A master planning public comment session on Elk Knob State Park will be held Thursday August 22nd at the Optimist Park Clubhouse in Boone from 5 to 7 pm.
