An Ashe County woman has been elected as president of the North Carolina Economic Development Association.

Dr. Patricia Mitchell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government and Justice Studies at Appalachian State University and a former Assistant Secretary at the NC Department of Commerce.

AsheCountyLine.com reports Mitchell is from Fleetwood and served for 9 years as director of economic development and 2 years as Ashe County manager.

Mitchell's term began July 1st after being elected at the Association's Annual Meeting in Beaufort June 13th.
