As reported last week, Grandfather Mountain experienced the wettest June on record last month, as the weather station at the Mile High Swinging Bridge received nearly 16 inches of rain.

The N.C. State Climate Office said that made Grandfather the wettest spot in the entire state. But all of the High Country saw a very wet June.

According to the Ashe Post and Times, Ashe County experienced the second wettest June since 1896.

The report indicated 12.22 inches of rain fell last month around Ashe, just shy of the 12.34 inches in June of 1976.

More than half of that total fell in the three day period June 7-9, during a stretch of very wet weather that led flooding issues all across the area.
