The U.S. 221/421 overpass was dedicated to fallen 22 year old U.S. Army soldier Sgt. Dillon C. Baldridge on Thursday, June 20th.

Ashe Post and Times reports this dedication was the result of an initiative created by the Blue Star Mothers of the High Country, and a N.C. Senate bill was passed to rename the Deep Gap bridge.

Sgt. Baldridge was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
