The Watauga Board of Elections met June 11 and discussed their budget request from Watauga County.

The Watauga Democrat reports the board is getting a 34.88 percent increase over last year, but is only getting $476,416 of the 644,807 that it requested.

Board of Elections director Matt Snyder said that county machines are becoming old, but is unsure if there will be enough funds to cover the cost of new equipment.

According to the report, there may be federal funding available for new equipment.

The filing period for November municipal elections begins July 5th.
