Blowing Rock Town Council approved a conditional use permit for the 40-room Rainey Lodge at their meeting Tuesday June 11th.

The Watauga Democrat reports the vote went 3-1 to approve, Mayor Pro Tem Albert Yount  was the dissenting vote.

The Grand Dakota Development  project is a 40-room hotel on 9 tenths of an acre between Morningside Drive, Rainey Street and U.S. 221 in downtown Blowing Rock.

An opposition group of neighbors said the project would lower property values, increase traffic, and would increase noise pollution.

According to the report, Councilman Doug Matheson made the motion to approve saying the project met all the required findings of fact that town code requires.
