A hiker was airlifted from Grandfather Mountain for an injury on Wednesday. This was the second helicopter rescue on the mountain in the last two weeks. 

The Watauga Democrat reports the hiker, a 24-year-old-man, broke his ankle on the Attic Window mountain peak.

According to the report, rescuers from Watauga and Avery County hiked in and treated the man on site before he was airlifted and transported to the hospital.

The rescue was conducted by a Salisbury-based aircrew from the North Carolina National Guard, as well as three rescue technicians from the Charlotte Fire Department.

Also assisting were Linville Central Rescue Squad, Linville Fire and Rescue, North Carolina State Parks, Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation staff, multiple Avery County fire departments, Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue and Watauga County Emergency Management.
