Downtown Boone is close to getting started on a new hotel and parking deck.

The Watauga Democrat reports the proposed "Marketplace" project will be at 783 West King Street on just over one acre of land.

According to the report, the proposal is for a multi-story 70-room hotel with a restaurant and a 169-space parking deck for hotel and public use.

The estimated project cost is $10 million.

The project has zoning approval, but will not have a building permit until all details have been sorted out.

Once a permit is in place, the next step will be demolition of the current office space before construction of the new hotel could begin.

There is no current timetable for the project.
