Boone Town Council has decided to take over management and enforcement of town parking.

The Watauga Democrat reports that after exploring the costs, consensus was reached to take over parking enforcement instead of renewing a contract with McLaurin Parking of Raleigh.

The report indicates the current McLaurin contract costs the town approximately $226,000. By taking over parking enforcement, the town would hire four full time employees and costs would increase about $43,000 over the current contract.

The move would give the town more flexibility in parking policy, such as possibly allowing downtown employees the option of renting town parking spaces on a monthly basis.
