The late Merle Watson will be inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.
Merle is the son of Doc Watson and was born in Deep Gap. He is widely recognized as one of the best flat-picking guitarists of his generation. He won two Grammy Awards and was nominated for 7 Grammy Awards in his music career.
Merle died in a tractor accident at the young age of 36 and MerleFest in Wilkesboro was named in his honor.
Merle will be officially inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in Kannapolis on October 17th. The ceremony will be open to the public.
