High Country United Way celebrated its 40th year with its Spring Fling on Tuesday.

The celebration included a special send-off for outgoing United Way Director Gary Childers, and a special welcome of incoming director Marti Phillips.

High Country Press reports four Governor's Volunteer Service Awards were also given out at the event.

According to the report, Teddy Watson received the award for his work with the Hunger and Health Coalition. Maggie Christenbury received the award for her work with the Children’s Playhouse.

Angela McMann of Western Youth Network and Shannon Carrol of Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture were medallion winners and will be presented with their awards in a special ceremony with Governor Roy Cooper.
