Appalachian State University is planning to move its softball, track and field and tennis facilities to its property on 105 in Boone.

The Watauga Democrat reports the first phase of the project would be the construction of the softball stadium, which is scheduled to start this summer and be finished by January of 2020. The stadium will be on the site of the old Watauga High School softball field.

According to the report, phase two of the project would be the construction of six indoor and six outdoor tennis courts and a full-scale track and field facility. Construction can’t begin on those facilities until funding is in place.

The Boone Town Council needs to give final approval before each project can move forward.
