The Blue Ridge Parkway is planning major updates to the Flat Top Manor House this year.
The Watauga Democrat reports the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and the National Park Service announced a $722,000 grant to help fund various projects.
According to the report, installation of fire alarm and suppression systems is expected to be finished by July, rehabilitation of retaining walls and resurfacing of carriage trails will be ongoing through the year and exterior renovations are expected to start in the fall.
Construction will also be done on the Linn Cove Viaduct, including a new asphalt waterproof system, new bridge joints and erosion repair underneath the bridge.
Work is expected to last through October, but the road will remain open.
