The Sugar Mountain Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster could open as early as this summer.

The Watauga Democrat reports the track will be over 2,000 feet. Riders are pulled to the top of the mountain like a ski lift, then ride down banked turns and slopes reaching top speeds of nearly 30 miles per hour.

According to the report, there are only about 20 alpine coasters in the country, and this will be the first one in the state of North Carolina.

The current plan is for the coaster to open this July or August with an alpine center and parking lot to open soon after.
