The expansion of the Wilkes Community College Ashe Campus is expected to start construction this September.

The Ashe Post and Times reports the 36,000 square-foot expansion will cost $12 million.

According to the report, Ashe County Commissioners committed $8 million to the project in county funding, the college will fund $3 million and the remaining $1 million will come from donors.

The new space will be next to the current Ashe Campus building behind Ashe County High School. The expansion will include computer labs and classrooms, an outdoor learning space, separate wings for shop and cosmetology and a meeting space for the public.

The expanded campus is expected to be ready for students for the fall semester of 2021.
