The U.S. 221 widening project from Deep Gap to Jefferson will start seeing increased activity with winter weather out of the way.
The Ashe Post and Times reports the 16-mile project has been broken down into 5 sections.
Sections A and B from 421 in Deep Gap across the South Fork New River are about 85 percent complete and should be finished by the end of this year.
Section C to the 194 junction in Baldwin is about 60 percent complete and should be finished by December of 2020.
Section D to the intersection of 221 and 163 in West Jefferson was finished in January.
Section E to 88 in Jefferson is expected to begin construction this September.
