The Boone Town Council passed a motion to allow more time to discuss the Highway 105 Superstreet project before putting it to a vote.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation made several changes to the project after meeting with town and county officials earlier in March.
Changes include adding a U-turn before the Blowing Rock Road intersection, adding a U-turn at Ingles and adding a left turn lane from the Highway 105 Bypass onto Highway 105.
The Watauga County Board of Commissioners voted in favor of the changes, but the Boone Town Council wants to schedule another meeting to further talk things over.
Council member Sam Furgiuele said there’s not enough information to make a decision at this time.
“This is an important decision for the town of Boone and this is going to have a huge impact on that corridor and the people that live there, the people that travel on it, and the people that do business on it. I don’t think we have enough information to support this.”
The North Carolina DOT previously stated that they likely won’t make further changes and if a decision is not made soon to accept the current plan, the project will move to the back of the priority list.
