The Watauga County Board of Commissioners approved the contract price for the purchase of property for the new Valle Crucis School.

The approximate 14 acres of land is about $1.1 million and sits on Broadstone Road, less than a mile from the existing school.

The Watauga County Board of Education will use its own funds to purchase the property, but had to have the Commissioners approval first.

For Commissioner Perry Yates, it was an easy decision.

“I think it’s good to keep the school in this community. I think you guys have a done a great job. I look at this as an investment in our kids, not as an expense,” said Yates.

The next step is for Watauga County Schools to inspect the land to make sure it’s a good spot for the new Valle Crucis School before construction begins.
