High Country United Way executive director Gary Childers plans to retire in April.

Childers has served in the role for about 5 years.

The Watauga Democrat reports current High Country United Way associate director Marti Phillips plans to take over the executive director position.

According to the report, Phillips has more than 10 years of experience working with nonprofits.

As executive director she will focus on fundraising and increasing revenue to support High Country United Way’s partner agencies and their initiatives.
