The national gas price average has increased for the first time since October.

AAA Carolinas reports the increase was only by a penny, with the current national average sitting at $2.25.

North Carolina is experiencing fluctuating prices at the moment, but the statewide average is about $2.09.

The reason for the national increase in gas prices is because crude oil prices have been slowly rising and there has been a slight increase in gasoline demand since the start of the new year.

Gas price increases are expected to be small for now and may level off soon.
