The Watauga County Community Recreation Center is expected to open in April of 2020.

The Watauga Democrat reports since breaking ground in October, the project cost is still at its original estimate of about $38.5 million.

According to the report, the drilling and concrete process for the building’s foundation is about halfway finished and steel should start going up in March.

The Rec Center is on 3 and a half acres of property at the corner of State Farm Road and Hunting Lane in Boone.

Once complete, the center will have four multi-use courts, a competition swimming pool, a leisure pool, a walking track, gym equipment, party rooms for public use, locker rooms and more.
