The Boone Town Council recently approved a $1 Million dollar increase for the water intake project.

The Watauga Democrat reports the change is for upgrades and maintenance items at the water treatment plant that have been deferred in the past.

The change will allow the town to utilize unspent contingency funds and take advantage of several hundred thousands of dollars in savings from the water transmission line portion of the project.

The $42.3 million budget for the project includes $1,683,516 in contingency funds. The contingency funds must be spent before the town can access $1.8 million in USDA grant funds for the project.
