The proposed county budget for Ashe County for fiscal year 2018-19 totals more than $35 million dollars.

The Ashe Post and Times reports the proposed budget includes increases for Ashe County Schools, School Capital Outlays, Wilkes Community College, Ashe County Public Library, the Appalachian District Health Department.

There are also funds for a fire training center, an employee pay increase and allocating funds for Ashe Opportunities workers. County employees would see a 1.8 percent pay increase.

There were no increases for Ashe Memorial Hospital and Ashe Services for Aging.

Property tax rates will stay at $0.433 cents per $100 valuation.

Fire tax rates would also remain the same, however Lansing has requested a $.02 fire tax increase.

The Ashe County Board of Commissioners will hold their budget workshop the first week of June.
