Boone Town Manager John Ward released the latest progress update on the Town of Boone Water Intake Project.

The Harper Corporation continues to complete items at the water treatment plant, the water intake site and at the Brownwood Road booster pump station. The focus at the water treatment plant has been the completion of filter #2. Work will now focus on replacement of the three remaining filters. Demo work on the concrete surfaces on the back side of the plant will also begin. Crack repair and a new interior coating will be applied to the existing clear well. At the intake site crews have been drilling to remove rock within the infiltration gallery and have started mass excavation within the infiltration gallery. Once excavation is complete, crews will begin installing the piping. At the booster pump crews have started pipe testing and will being erecting the masonry walls of the structure.

The Garney Construction Company has completed all pipe installation along Brownwood Road, Hwy 421 and New River Hills. Crews will continue working on crossing #5 near the New River Bridge at HWY 421. Once this section of pipe is complete the remaining portions of the project will be flushed and inspected. Final punch list items and supplemental seeding along the project is expected to be completed this month. Milling of patched sections of Brownwood Road has been completed and asphalt overlay is expected within the next few weeks.
