Former State Senator Dan Soucek of Boone has been named to the new Statuary Hall Selection Committee that plans to put up a statue of the late Rev. Billy Graham in the U.S. Capitol.

Mountain Xpress of Asheville reports that along with Soucek, David Bruce, executive assistant at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and president Blue Ridge Broadcasting ministry; Clarence Henderson, of the N.C. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission; and U.S. Representative Robert Pittenger of North Carolina's 9th District will also serve on the Selection Committee.

N.C. Senate Leader Phil Berger chose the members of the committee. According to the report, lawmakers passed legislation in 2015 authorizing the committee and empowering it to take steps to replace one of North Carolina’s two statues in the National Statuary Hall Collection with a likeness of Rev. Graham.
