A Central Wilkes Middle School student struck by a bus Friday evening in Washington, D.C., remains in critical but stable condition.

The Wilkes Journal Patriot reports Hunter Brown, 14, was on an eighth-grade field trip when he was hit by a commercial tour bus near the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial about 6:50 pm Friday.

According to the report, Hunter was trapped under the bus and was freed by emergency personnel and flown by U.S. Park Police air ambulance helicopter to Children's National Medical Center in Washington.

U.S. Park Police are still investigating the accident and have not released any details.
