A Boone man who shot his girlfriend last May pleaded guilty in Watauga County Superior Court to four charges Tuesday.

The Watauga Democrat reports Justin Martin Williams, age 29, of Archie Carroll Road, Boone, was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault by strangulation and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present.

A previous charge of attempted first-degree murder was dismissed.

Superior Court Judge Gary Gavenus consolidated the sentences into one judgment of a minimum of three years and eight months and maximum of five years and five months in prison, and ordered Williams to pay $38,060 in restitution. Williams was granted credit for his 279 days served prior to trial.

According to the report, on May 30th last year, Williams - reportedly intoxicated - became upset and angry after arguing with the woman, and hit her in the chest and head-butted her.
