The man charged in the death of 10 month old Caius Alexander Bruner has pleaded guilty.

The Watauga Democrat reports Ryan Neil Hicks pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder, negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury, intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury and felony failure to register as a sex offender.

As part of the plead deal, Judge Gary Gavenus rendered two judgments, the first consolidated the second-degree murder and failure to register as a sex offender charges and the second judgment consolidated the two child abuse charges.

Hicks was sentenced to a minimum of 18 years and five months in prison, with a maximum of 23 years and two months on the first judgment. Hicks was given credit for his 369 days of pre-trial confinement.

Hicks was also sentenced to a minimum of four years and 11 months and maximum of 6 years and 11 months for the second judgment. This sentence will run consecutively with the first judgment.

Hicks was ordered to pay $10,000 total for both judgments, and does not have to pay restitution.

According to the report, Hicks's defense attorney, Eric Eller, said his defendant has expressed his deepest regret and remorse about the situation since the incident.
